Situated in the lush mountain landscape of Asheville, North Carolina, Whipporwill provides a warm and relaxed setting for treatment. Clients live in comfortable homes and apartments; selected to accommodate the dynamic needs and preferences of each individual. Our main residence, the Haw House, features open common rooms, bright pops of color, outdoor relaxation areas near a babbling brook, bonfire pit, and yard games overlooking the creek and mountains. Clients who live at the Haw House have private bedrooms and shared common areas. While progressing through the program, clients often transition to their own residence to experience more independence with continued staff support.

Asheville has a small town feel with diverse shopping, world-class dining, historic architecture, and a vibrant arts scene featuring many studios and galleries, theater performances, year-round festivals, and a thriving live music scene. Asheville has a stimulating downtown while the River Arts District and West Asheville area display colorful murals set in a funky industrial landscape. This up and coming mountain town has an inclusive atmosphere welcoming to all. Known for hundreds of years as a mecca for healing, Asheville’s focus on health and wellness remains at the heart of the community.

Western North Carolina is at the center of some of the most beautiful geology in the American Southeast, showcasing scenic vistas, stunning waterfalls, and thousands of acres of pristine wilderness amidst the awe-inspiring background of the Blue Ridge Mountains. The fresh mountain air, local flora and fauna, and colorful fall foliage display create a restorative atmosphere. With a humid subtropical climate, temperatures average 70-90 degrees during summer months and 30-70 degrees in cooler months. Asheville's mountains, lakes, and rivers serve as an outdoor playground for hiking, camping, mountain biking, rock climbing, kayaking, and water sports. Many forests and parks are within a short driving distance as well as the breathtaking Blue Ridge Parkway and Great Smoky Mountains National Park.

Asheville features a variety of municipal amenities for leisure and relaxation, including walking trails, city parks, specialized athletic facilities, golf courses, salt caves, and world renowned spas. Clients have a membership to the YMCA of Western North Carolina, with multiple locations that offer pools, saunas, tennis courts, indoor tracks, cardio machines, strength equipment, and group fitness classes. Home to The University of North Carolina at AshevilleWarren Wilson College, and AB Tech Community College, Asheville accommodates a wide range of student needs including options for part-time students, continuing education courses, individualized academic attention, high school equivalency, and adult high school.
